An InstaGram friend of mine is starting a group email book devotion thing and suggested A Million Little Ways: Uncover the Art You Were Made to Live by Emily P. Freeman. I immediately said yes and downloaded to book to my Kindle. It’s perfectly on topic, right?
Right out of the gate I started to worry, first paragraph I found something that I really REALLY disagreed with. I kept reading and it really does show a ton of promise. However, that sent me looking for other books on christianity and creativity/artists. I found several!
Unlocking the Heart of the Artist by Matt Tommey and Ray Hughes looks very promising and what I really want. I also looked at Imagine That: Discovering your Unique Role as a Christian Artist by Manuel Luz. For the moment they are stuck on my wishlist, but I suspect I’ll get to them soon.
I dug a little deeper and found that there is a retreat not far from my home for this very thing! This has me seriously excited. Matt Tommey makes baskets, but has spearheaded a group in Asheville of christian artists. What an amazing thing to see! I doubt that I will be going to that this year, but it is something to watch for sure.
Not but a day later the college group at church decided to read Forgotten God: Reversing the Tragic Neglect of the Holy Spirit by Francis Chan as our next study. Also, very likely on target. It seems to make sense to me that creativity would spout from that portion of God predominately.
So, as I have asked questions, I now have some leads. Things to read and ponder. Artists to look for and explore their works and community. Connections with crafters such as marineparents on InstaGram, who feels led to auction specialty OOAK clutches to assist other families to adopt. (You should check those out – they end soon.) 4 books to seek some clarity – I don’t know that there is just one answer and believe right now that it is a process. It’s pretty exciting to see where this all leads.
